TURIN, Italy — Fiat will bring the 500X crossover to U.S. dealerships in 2014, the company said at a press event here last week.

Despite the name, the vehicle will not be based on the 500 subcompact. It will use a widened version of the Fiat platform that underpins the Punto subcompact. With a length of 165 inches, the 500X will be the longest model in the 500 family. The standard 500 is 140 inches long.

Fiat plans to assemble the 500X in Turin, alongside a new Jeep small crossover, code-named B-SUV, that will go into production in the second quarter of 2014, company sources say.

The B-SUV will be smaller than the Jeep Compass and Patriot and will be sold in the United States, Europe and other markets.
